Computational Linguistics

Caterina Balcells talks to IT Business Edge about computational linguistics

Inbenta's Caterina Balcells spoke to Don Tennant from IT Business Edge about computational linguistics and chatbots.

They also spoke about the different challenges faced in computational linguistics when creating lexicons for each language:

“For example, we have been working for some years now with German, and these very long, compound words that they have can be challenging for us. Chinese and Japanese don’t have spaces between sentences, and that’s also a bit complicated for us, because we have to know where a word starts and ends.”

Caterina also offered some advice for young people hoping to pursue a career in artificial intelligence:

“It’s a fascinating job — you’re building things, and then you see them online and see that they’re helping people, and helping companies sell more. It’s very satisfying to see that what you do is helping other people.”

When it comes to supporting a new language it is not as simple as just translating our AI technology. Inbenta develops the lexicon from scratch with native computational linguists.

The result of this unique language approach is a highly developed lexicon. This ensures companies will be able to fully understand the meaning behind their customer’s query.
