A natural language is a language humans use, both orally and in writing, as a means of everyday communication among themselves. English, Spanish, Catalan, Chinese, ... are natural languages. The concept was created to distinguish these languages from formal or artificially constructed languages.

A major challenge for computer science is the development of computers which are able to understand natural language. To cope with this, there is a whole field within computer science concerned with the interactions between computers and human (natural) languages: Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Thanks to the use of NLP techniques within the field of information searches, natural language searches, such as those provided by INBENTA Semantic Search Engine, have been achieved, which allow users to present their queries as questions or statements instead of restricting those queries to only keywords.
